Youth Programs

Fresh Start Intervention is a holistic program designed to deal with the total person (spirit, body, and soul) in the area of drug and gang intervention. Services are offered to youth and young adults ages 12 through 22 residing in the Maywood/Proviso Leyden Area. The goal of the program is to intervene in the lives of these young people whose surroundings are plagued with the illicit use of tobacco, alcohol, or other drugs.

The program offers the following services:

Services are offered year round, Monday through Friday, from 9:00am to 7:00pm by a trained and professional staff, along with parent and family participation. Fresh Start Intervention networks with the following types of organizations:

Educational Enhancement
This program provides tutoring in various areas as well as homework assistance.

Gang and Drug Prevention
This program touches on street life through practical and personal experiences and will also educate about the illicit use and effects of street drugs and misuse of prescribed drugs.

Life Skills Education
This program covers practical everyday survival techniques such as parenting, sex education, cooking, organizing, planning, prioritizing and following up.

Assessments and Referrals
Referrals are made to collaborating agencies based on assessments of the client's needs.

Job Readiness
This program provides knowledge to participants on resumes, interviewing skills, grooming techniques, proper identification and the like.

Structured Sports and Recreation
This program provides activities such as outings or field trips, structured sports, music, dancing, and physical fitness.

Youth Coordinators
This program provides activities and projects to develop youth leadership skills.
